The verdict
One thing this comparison does not do is pick a winner on price. Ring prices change daily, so the cards above read the live Amazon listing and our copy stays out of it. What we can say is the order on the day we checked: the Helio Ring sat below both RingConns, which is the entire reason to consider it.
Fees: a genuine tie
On most pages on this site the fee column does the deciding. Not here. Amazfit's Helio page says “No Subscriptions Required” and the Amazon listings say “Subscription Free”; RingConn sells no paid tier on any ring and prints “No Subscriptions” on the Gen 2 page. Three years of ownership, three zeroes.
| Ring | Required plan | Fees, 1 yr | Fees, 3 yrs | Fees, 5 yrs | Ring price |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Amazfit Helio Ring | No subscription (optional extras) | $0 | $0 | $0 | $164.79 |
| RingConn Gen 2 | No subscription | $0 | $0 | $0 | $299.00 |
| RingConn Gen 2 Air | No subscription | $0 | $0 | $0 | $199.00 |
There is one asymmetry inside the tie, and it is small but real. RingConn has no paid tier to withdraw. Amazfit does: footnote 3 on its own Helio page says “Readiness insights require subscription to Zepp Aura,” and the same page lists Zepp Aura as “now free for Amazfit Helio Ring users.” Today that costs nothing. It is still a bundle rather than an absence, which is why we score the Helio 9 on cost of ownership and the Gen 2 a 10.
Battery: four days against twelve
This is the widest gap between the two rings, and it is not close. Amazfit claims “Up to 4 days” in its “Typical Usage Scenario,” with the conditions spelled out: heart rate, assisted sleep and stress monitoring on, blood oxygen off. RingConn claims 10-12 days for the Gen 2, and the Gen 2 ships with a charging case RingConn rates at “Extended Up to 150 Days With Charging Case.”
Translated into weeks: the Helio is a twice-weekly charge on a wireless dish that stays at home, with a full charge of “Approx. 1 hour, 40 minutes.” The Gen 2 is a once-every-week-and-a-half charge, and the case means a long trip needs no charger at all. Both figures are makers' claims under makers' conditions, and both shrink in the cold, in the heat and with more sensors switched on; our smart ring battery life guide reads them with the fine print, and RingConn battery drain covers what RingConn itself says shortens a charge.
Sizes: three against nine
Amazfit lists the Helio Ring in sizes 8, 10 and 12 - three sizes, two apart, sold as three separate Amazon listings. RingConn lists the Gen 2 in sizes 6-14 with a complimentary sizing kit, and says plainly that its sizes differ from standard rings, so you should use the kit.
For a lot of readers this ends the comparison before any sensor is discussed. If you are a size 9 or 11, or under 8, or over 12, the Helio Ring does not exist for you; Amazfit's answer is a measurement form for non-standard sizes, which is a support request rather than a product. And because the ring is sold per size, ordering the wrong one is a return rather than an exchange.
Fit also decides data quality: a ring that rotates or sits loose reads a worse pulse signal. Our how tight should a smart ring be and smart ring sizing compared pages cover both halves of that, and large and small sizes lists which brands reach the ends of the range.
Evidence: a preprint against nothing
Neither ring has a peer-reviewed validation study behind it, so this is a comparison of thin against thinner.
- RingConn Gen 2: a 2026 preprint by Tao et al. compared it against a chest-strap monitor in 64 seated athletes and reported a heart rate bias of -0.42 bpm (Tao et al.). It is not peer-reviewed, it was seated only, and it says nothing about workouts. It is still one real comparison against a reference device.
- Amazfit Helio Ring: we found no published validation at all - no chest strap, no ECG, no sleep lab. That is why it scores 2 out of 10 on evidence against the Gen 2's 5.
The category picture, from a 2026 systematic review and meta-analysis of 28 articles on 11 finger-worn devices by Jin et al. in the Journal of Translational Medicine, is that sleep/wake detection holds up much better than stage-by-stage accuracy (Jin et al.). That describes the group, not either ring, and we do not move a study from one device to another.
Features each one has and the other doesn't
Only the Helio Ring has: an EDA sensor, which Amazfit says will power emotion monitoring “via software update”; PAI, Amazfit's own activity scoring system; and the Zepp app's sync list, which names Strava, adidas Running, komoot, Relive, Google Fit and Apple Health.
Only the Gen 2 has: the charging case; sleep apnea monitoring, which RingConn markets with a “90.7% Sleep Apnea Monitoring Accuracy” figure we treat as the maker's claim rather than a validated one (what it involves is in RingConn sleep apnea monitoring); a free sizing kit; and the wider size range.
Both have: sleep stages, nightly HRV and resting heart rate, SpO2, stress, cycle tracking, iPhone and Android support, and no GPS, which means neither is a training device. Water resistance is a wash on depth - Amazfit quotes 10 ATM to ISO 22810:2010 with a named test report, RingConn quotes “IP68 (100 m / 328 ft)” - though Amazfit's is the clearer statement of the two, and Amazfit tells you to take the ring off for hot showers and saunas. Our do smart rings track workouts guide explains why a ring reads workout heart rate badly whatever the brand.
Side by side
The scores are our rubric, not a test result: cost of ownership 30%, evidence 25%, battery 15%, sizing and fit 10%, data ownership 10%, platform support 10%, with each sub-score explained on our methodology page. The Helio Ring loses most of its points in two cells - battery and sizing - which is exactly where a buyer feels a ring every week.
Buying, warranty and HSA/FSA
Both rings are listed on Amazon.com. The Helio Ring is sold as three size-specific listings rather than one listing with a size picker, so read the size in the title. RingConn sells direct as well as on Amazon, and that choice changes more than the price: RingConn's optional 2- or 3-year Product Protection plan “must be purchased together with a brand-new product directly from www.ringconn.com” at checkout, so an Amazon buyer cannot add it later (RingConn Support).
RingConn's standard warranty is one year outside the EEA, excludes “routine battery replacement and normal capacity loss,” and is transferable to later owners; the full terms, including the 14-day return window, are in RingConn's warranty. RingConn rings are HSA/FSA eligible through Flex. We found no published warranty term or HSA/FSA statement for the Helio Ring on Amazfit's product page, so we are not going to invent one - ask Amazfit's support line before you count on either. Our HSA/FSA eligibility guide explains why that answer varies by brand and channel.
On legal status, both are clear to buy in the US today for different reasons. Zepp Health settled with Oura and was terminated from Oura's ITC investigation, confirmed by the Commission on August 11, 2026 (Gadgets & Wearables), and RingConn licensed Oura's patents in a multi-year agreement in October 2025 (RingConn).
Who should buy which
- Buy the RingConn Gen 2 if you want the fewest compromises for no monthly fee: battery you forget about, a size that fits, a kit to find it with, and the only chest-strap comparison on the page. Start at the Gen 2 review.
- Buy the Amazfit Helio Ring if the lowest entry price decides it, you are a size 8, 10 or 12, and a charge every third or fourth night is genuinely fine. The detail is in the Amazfit Helio Ring review.
- Buy an Oura instead if this whole page has convinced you that evidence matters more than the fee does. That trade is set out in Amazfit Helio Ring vs Oura Ring 5.
- Buy the RingConn Gen 2 Air if you want RingConn sizing and a longer battery nearer the Helio's price, and you do not need the case or the apnea feature. See the Gen 2 Air review and Gen 2 vs Gen 2 Air.
- Buy neither if you want published, peer-reviewed accuracy for the exact model on your finger. Nothing in this price range has it; the evidence picture for every ring is in how accurate smart rings are.

What the specs support
- No required subscription, from a brand that sells watches in every US electronics aisle
- The cheapest ring on this site from a maker that publishes specs, sizing and a support line
- A 10 ATM rating cited to a watch standard (ISO 22810:2010) and a named test report, which is a clearer basis than an IP rating quoted with a depth
- Works on iPhone and Android, and syncs to Apple Health, Google Fit and Strava
Where it falls short
- "Up to 4 days" is the shortest battery claim of any ring we cover, and there is no charging case to fall back on
- Only three sizes (8, 10, 12), so whole groups of fingers are simply not served
- We found no published validation of the Helio Ring against a chest strap, an ECG or a sleep lab
- Amazfit's own footnote puts readiness insights behind Zepp Aura, a plan the brand currently bundles free - a condition it controls, not you

How we scored this
How these picks were chosen
Every pick here is labeled Researched: chosen from each brand's fee policy, spec sheet, sizing and warranty pages, and the published studies that measured the ring (or its predecessor) against a chest strap, an ECG or a sleep lab, then scored on a public rubric. Every figure links to where it came from, and maker performance numbers are labeled “maker's claim,” so you can see exactly what you're paying for before you buy.
Scores are editorial judgments built from that documented research. Commissions never set a score or decide a pick. The rubric and its weights are published.
What changed
