RingConn Gen 2 Air review: the cheapest no-fee RingConn, and what it leaves out

How this review was built

We haven't worn, owned or lab-tested a RingConn Gen 2 Air. This review is built from RingConn's published specs for the Air and for Gen 2, its warranty and protection-plan terms, and the published evidence for RingConn rings, all linked below. On our ring rubric (how we score) it comes to 7.7 out of 10: full marks for cost of ownership, strong on sizing, data ownership and phone support, and held back by a shorter battery claim than its siblings and no validation of its own. It ranks third in our best smart rings without a subscription and first in the best budget smart rings.

One note on price. We don't print ring prices, because they change daily and our cards link to the live listing. What we can say from RingConn's own store is the order: it lists the Air below Gen 2 and Gen 3. That position, plus no fee, is the whole reason this ring exists.

What you pay over three years

The ring, and then nothing. RingConn sells no paid tier on any of its rings, and the Air's product page lists no plan. Here it is against the two alternatives on this page, both of which also charge nothing.

What the Air gives up

Against the Gen 2, RingConn's own pages list four differences worth knowing before you save the money:

• No charging case. The Gen 2 includes a case RingConn rates at up to 150 days in total. The Air lists none, so every charge happens at a cradle.
• No sleep apnea monitoring. RingConn says it directly: “Gen 2 Air covers key health tracking features, though it does not include sleep apnea monitoring.”
• A shorter battery claim. Up to 10 days, against 10-12 days for Gen 2.
• Different materials. The Air is “Titanium Steels, PVD Coating, Medical-Grade Epoxy Resin,” where Gen 2 is a titanium alloy with epoxy resin.

What it keeps

More than you might expect from the cheapest model. The Air keeps the things that decide whether a ring works for you day to day:

• No subscription, like every RingConn.
• The same sizes as Gen 2. RingConn: “The ring sizes for both Gen 2 and Gen 2 Air are the same.” Sizes 6-14, with a free sizing kit.
• The same phone support: iOS 17.0+ and Android 10.0+.
• The same water rating: IP68 (100 m / 328 ft).
• Core tracking of sleep, heart rate and activity.
• The same HSA/FSA route through Flex, and the same warranty terms.

What the evidence says

We found no published validation of the Gen 2 Air. The closest evidence is for its sibling: a 2026 preprint (Tao et al., not yet peer-reviewed) compared the Gen 2 with a chest-strap monitor in 64 seated athletes and found a heart rate bias of -0.42 bpm (Tao et al.). The Air is a different model, and we don't transfer a study from one ring to another just because they share a brand. That's why it scores 4 out of 10 on evidence, one point below Gen 2.

Battery and charging

RingConn claims “Up to 10 days battery life, 90-min fast charging.” That's a maker's figure under its own conditions, and we found no reviewer measurement of the Air to check it against. Even taken at face value, it means charging roughly every 10 days at best, with no case to fall back on. On a trip, you pack the charger or you run out.

For comparison, the Gen 2 claims 10-12 days plus up to 150 days from its included case, and the Galaxy Ring claims up to 7 days (sizes 12-13; up to 6 for smaller sizes) with a case that stretches it to 14. A ring without a case isn't a problem if it lives on your nightstand charger once a week. It is a problem if you travel often. Sizing and phones

Sizes run 6-14, in whole sizes (the size selector lists 6 through 14). RingConn says “RingConn ring sizes differ from standard rings,” so your jewelry size isn't a safe guide, and the free sizing kit is the way to do it. Because Gen 2 and Gen 2 Air share sizes, a Gen 2 sizing result carries over; a Gen 3 result doesn't, since RingConn says Gen 3 sizes differ from its other rings. The Air needs iOS 17.0+ or Android 10.0+, so check your phone's software version before you order. Unlike the Galaxy Ring, it works on iPhone, which is why it scores 9 out of 10 on phone support in our rubric against the Galaxy Ring's 3.

Warranty and where to buy

RingConn's standard warranty is one year outside the EEA and excludes “Routine battery replacement and normal capacity loss” ( RingConn). The optional US Product Protection plans (2 or 3 years, bought at checkout) cover the Gen 2 Air too, and RingConn says the battery is included as part of the device under that cover (RingConn Support). The Air is listed on Amazon.com. RingConn's own store showed it out of stock when we checked, which may only reflect the default size and color. RingConn's US status is settled: it licensed Oura's patents in October 2025 (RingConn).

Who should skip it

• Frequent travelers and anyone who hates charging. There's no case. The Gen 2's is rated at up to 150 days.
• Anyone who wants sleep apnea screening. The Air doesn't include it. Even on rings that do, it's a trend tool, not a diagnosis; see smart rings and sleep apnea.
• Size 15. Sizes stop at 14.
• Anyone who wants published accuracy evidence for the ring they buy. There isn't any for the Air.

The alternatives

RingConn Gen 2 is the step up that fixes most of the Air's gaps: the charging case, sleep apnea monitoring, a slightly longer battery claim and a chest-strap preprint, with the same sizes and still no fee. It's our top no-fee ring overall; see the RingConn Gen 2 review.
