Samsung Galaxy Ring review: no fee, but your phone decides the features

How this review was built

We haven't worn, owned or lab-tested a Galaxy Ring. This review is built from Samsung's US and Canadian product pages, its newsroom posts on sizing, press reports on its sleep apnea feature and one battery incident, and reviewer observations from GSMArena and Android Police, all linked below. Samsung launched the Galaxy Ring on July 10, 2024, and as of September 2026 its US page lists only this model; we found no official Galaxy Ring 2 announcement.

On our ring rubric (how we score) the Galaxy Ring scores 6.2 out of 10. That average hides a split. It gets full marks for cost of ownership, because there's no fee, and 3 out of 10 for phone support, because it doesn't work on iPhone. It also scores 2 out of 10 for evidence, because we found no peer-reviewed validation. For a Samsung phone owner, the phone score barely matters. For everyone else, it's the whole story. That's why it wins the best smart ring for Android and doesn't appear in the best smart ring for iPhone.

What you pay over three years

No subscription. The Amazon listing title says “No App Subscription,” and Samsung's US product page lists no subscription or paid Samsung Health tier for the ring. Here's the fee math against the two alternatives on this page.

The real cost: your phone

Samsung doesn't charge a fee. It asks for your phone instead. Here's what its own pages and one detailed report say:

• No iPhone. The ring is supported on Samsung Galaxy phones and other Android phones running Android 11 or newer (Samsung Canada). iPhone isn't supported at all.
• Features missing on other Android brands. Samsung: “Some features, such as Double Pinch and Find My Ring does not work on Android smartphones of other brands.”
• Energy Score needs a Galaxy AI phone. Samsung's US page says “Energy Score insights ... require compatible Samsung Galaxy AI phone, Samsung Health app and Samsung account,” and “Select Galaxy AI features require compatible Samsung Galaxy phone.”
• More gaps, per Android Police. Its July 2024 report lists Energy Score, Galaxy AI health recommendations, Find My Ring and gestures as unavailable on non-Samsung phones (Android Police).

For a Galaxy phone owner, none of that costs anything. For a Pixel or other Android owner, you'd be buying a ring with a hobbled feature set. For an iPhone owner, it simply won't work. And it ties your ring to your next phone purchase: switch to an iPhone later and the ring stops being useful. That's a kind of lock-in a subscription-averse buyer should weigh as seriously as a fee.

What the evidence says

We searched the medical literature (Europe PMC) in September 2026 and found no peer-reviewed validation study of the Galaxy Ring. That's why it scores 2 out of 10 on evidence, the joint lowest on our rubric. By comparison, Oura's Gen 4 was tested against a Polar H10 chest strap in a peer-reviewed, independently funded study (Dial et al., 2025), and RingConn's Gen 2 has a preprint against a chest strap.

Samsung's page describes what the ring tracks: sleep, heart rate, “regular readings on skin temperature changes while you sleep,” and an “Energy Score with Galaxy AI” that calculates “your physical readiness based on yesterday's sleep, heart rate and activities.” None of that has independent published accuracy data we could find. Treat it the way you'd treat any unvalidated tracker: useful for trends against your own baseline, not as an absolute number.

The sleep apnea feature: announced, not live

At Galaxy Unpacked, Samsung said, as quoted by Android Authority in July 2026: “Galaxy Ring will be the first and only FDA-cleared over-the-counter ring device for sleep apnea risk detection,” with the feature due in fall 2026 (Android Authority). Gizmodo reported it arriving “later this fall” (Gizmodo).

We couldn't find a Samsung page confirming the ring's clearance or a live rollout, and sleep apnea isn't on Samsung's US Galaxy Ring page yet. So we treat it as coming, not current: don't buy the ring today for a feature you can't use today. When it arrives, it will be a risk-detection feature, which is a screening signal, not a diagnosis. Battery, sizing and build

Battery. Samsung claims “Up to 7 Days” per charge, but its footnote limits that to sizes 12 and 13; smaller sizes get up to 6 days. A full charging case stretches it to up to 14 days in total. GSMArena got about 5 days from a size 11 (GSMArena). The case is the saving grace; the ring alone needs a charge roughly weekly, or sooner on smaller sizes. Sizing. Galaxy Ring comes in US sizes 5 through 15; Samsung added sizes 14 and 15 in January 2025 (Samsung Newsroom). Samsung says the ring's size is “slightly different from that of regular rings,” and a complimentary sizing kit comes first. One inconsistency to know about: part of Samsung's US page still says the sample rings “come in 9 sizes, from 5 to 13,” while another line says the kit now includes the two new sizes. Build. A titanium frame, rated 10ATM (Samsung: “up to 100m of water for up to 10 minutes”) and IP68 (“up to 6 feet of water for up to 30 minutes”). Finishes are Titanium Black, Silver and Gold. For what those water ratings mean in a pool or sauna, see is a smart ring waterproof.

Battery safety and warranty

In January 2026, Android Police reported Samsung's findings on one Galaxy Ring whose battery swelled. Samsung attributed it to a crack in the ring's internal molding, said there was “no wider product battery safety risk,” and asked owners with poor battery life or performance issues to contact its customer support (Android Police). One incident isn't a pattern, and Samsung says there's no wider risk. What it does tell you is who to call: Samsung's customer support, if your ring's battery life or performance changes. The US version carries a one-year manufacturer warranty, per the Amazon listing title. We found no Samsung battery replacement policy for the ring on the pages we checked. One legal note: Samsung is a respondent in a second ITC patent action Oura filed, investigation 337-TA-1468, which began on December 18, 2025 (the5krunner; Oura). We found no exclusion order against the Galaxy Ring, and it's listed on Amazon.com.

Who should skip it

• iPhone owners. It doesn't work with iOS.
• Non-Samsung Android owners who want every feature. Double Pinch, Find My Ring and Energy Score insights need a Samsung phone.
• Anyone who may switch phone brands. The ring's usefulness is tied to your phone.
• Anyone who wants published accuracy evidence. We found no peer-reviewed validation.
• Anyone buying for sleep apnea screening today. It's announced for fall 2026, not live.
