Amazfit Helio Ring review: the cheapest no-fee ring from a big brand, and its two real limits

Amazfit sells the Helio Ring with no subscription at all, which is the whole argument of this site. Then it asks you to live with four days a charge and a finger that happens to be a size 8, 10 or 12.

What the specs support

  • No required subscription, from a brand that sells watches in every US electronics aisle
  • The cheapest ring on this site from a maker that publishes specs, sizing and a support line
  • A 10 ATM rating cited to a watch standard (ISO 22810:2010) and a named test report, which is a clearer basis than an IP rating quoted with a depth
  • Works on iPhone and Android, and syncs to Apple Health, Google Fit and Strava

Where it falls short

  • "Up to 4 days" is the shortest battery claim of any ring we cover, and there is no charging case to fall back on
  • Only three sizes (8, 10, 12), so whole groups of fingers are simply not served
  • We found no published validation of the Helio Ring against a chest strap, an ECG or a sleep lab
  • Amazfit's own footnote puts readiness insights behind Zepp Aura, a plan the brand currently bundles free - a condition it controls, not you

Skip this if…

…Your finger is not a size 8, 10 or 12, or you want more than four days between charges: RingConn's rings run 10-12 days and come in sizes 6-14.

How this review was built

We have not worn this ring. This review is built from Amazfit's own published specification table for the Helio Ring, its Amazon listings, the reporting on Zepp Health's settlement with Oura, and the published research on finger-worn trackers as a group, all linked at the bottom. Every number below is a figure Amazfit publishes, labeled as the maker's claim where it is one. On our ring rubric (how we score) it comes to 5.6 out of 10: strong on cost of ownership and phone support, weak on battery, sizing and evidence.

We also do not print ring prices in our copy, because they move daily. The card above reads the live Amazon price. What we can say about where this ring sits is the thing that matters to a buyer: on the day we checked, the Helio Ring was the lowest-priced ring listed by any brand we cover that publishes full specs, sizing and a support address. That is the whole appeal.

One housekeeping note that affects how you buy it: Amazfit does not sell the Helio Ring as a single listing with a size dropdown. Size 8, size 10 and size 12 are three separate Amazon listings at three separate prices. Check the size in the listing title before you order, and expect the price to differ by a few dollars between them.

What you pay over three years

The ring, and then nothing. Amazfit's page carries the headline “No Subscriptions Required,” and the Amazon listings repeat it as “Subscription Free.” Here is the three-year arithmetic against the two no-fee rings we would send most readers to instead.

RingRequired planFees, 1 yrFees, 3 yrsFees, 5 yrsRing price
Amazfit Helio RingNo subscription (optional extras)$0$0$0$164.79
RingConn Gen 2No subscription$0$0$0$299.00
RingConn Gen 2 AirNo subscription$0$0$0$199.00
#ad · Fees are each brand's published US plan price, checked Oct 23, 2026, multiplied out on the cheapest billing option offered (annual where it exists), ignoring any included free month and sales tax. Your total is the ring price plus the fee column. Ring prices change daily, so we link to the live price instead of printing one. How we compute fees.

The subscription question, read closely

This is the part worth slowing down for, because Amazfit's own page says two things at once. The headline is “No Subscriptions Required.” The marketing copy says Zepp Aura, the brand's AI sleep and coaching service, is “now free for Amazfit Helio Ring users,” and that Zepp Fitness is “totally free for Amazfit Helio Ring users.” But footnote 3 on the same page reads: “Readiness insights require subscription to Zepp Aura.”

Both statements can be true together, and the honest reading is this: the readiness insight sits inside a paid product that Amazfit currently gives Helio owners for nothing. Compare that with RingConn, which simply sells no paid tier at all, so there is no bundle to withdraw. The difference does not cost you a dollar today. It is a difference in who holds the switch.

If you want the longer version of that argument, do smart rings require a subscription goes brand by brand, and best smart rings without a subscription ranks the no-fee field.

Battery: four days, and no case

Amazfit claims “Up to 4 days” in what it calls the “Typical Usage Scenario.” Read the conditions it attaches, because they are unusually specific: heart rate, assisted sleep and stress monitoring on, and blood oxygen off. Turn SpO2 monitoring on overnight and you are working below that figure, not at it.

The cell is small enough that Amazfit publishes it by size: 16.5 mAh at size 8, 18.5 mAh at size 10 and 20.5 mAh at size 12. A full charge is a “Theoretical Charging Duration” of “Approx. 1 hour, 40 minutes” on the wireless charger in the box, and the box holds exactly that: ring, wireless charger, manual. There is no charging case, so there is no travel fallback.

In practice that means a charge roughly twice a week, at home, on a dish you must not leave behind. Set against RingConn's claimed 10-12 days plus a case it rates at up to 150 days, this is the clearest gap in the ring. Our smart ring battery life guide reads every maker's claim with its fine print, and smart ring charging time covers how long each ring is off your hand.

Figures as published by the maker or on the product listing; each value links to its source. A dash means the figure isn't in our cited sources. Hardware prices aren't shown: they change daily, so check the live price on Amazon.

Sizing: three sizes, and why that matters

Amazfit lists the Helio Ring in sizes 8, 10 and 12. Not 8 to 12. Three sizes. At 3.65 g to 3.82 g, 8 mm wide and 2.6 mm thick, it is a chunky band by ring standards, and a jump of two full sizes between options is a lot of circumference to absorb on a device that has to sit snug to read a pulse.

If you are a 9, an 11, or anything under 8 or over 12, the ring does not exist in your size. Amazfit offers a measurement form for sizes outside the standard range, which is a service request rather than a product you can add to a cart. Everyone else should settle the question before ordering, because the ring is sold as size-specific listings: getting it wrong means a return, not an exchange.

Our picks for this job

Size it first, or buy the ring with the sizes

The sizing kit is the cheap insurance on a size-specific listing. If your finger is not an 8, 10 or 12, the second pick is the honest answer.

What it actually tracks

The sensor list Amazfit publishes is a BioTracker PPG heart rate sensor, a temperature sensor, an EDA sensor, a 3-axis accelerometer and a 3-axis gyroscope, talking to the Zepp App over Bluetooth LE. That supports sleep stages including REM, naps, sleep breathing quality, sleep HRV and resting heart rate, SpO2, stress, a readiness score, the PAI activity system, menstrual cycle tracking and four sports modes.

Two honest notes on that list. The EDA sensor's emotion monitoring is described on Amazfit's own page as a function that “will be added via software update,” so treat it as promised rather than present. And four sports modes with no GPS is not a training device: like every ring, this one is for sleep and resting trends, which is the point our do smart rings track workouts guide makes with the chest-strap comparisons.

On the ownership question that this site cares about, the ring needs a Zepp account, and Amazfit lists syncing to third-party apps including Strava, adidas Running, komoot, Relive, Google Fit and Apple Health. Being able to push your nights into Apple Health or Google Fit without paying is more than some membership rings allow; our what data do smart rings collect guide covers who else sees it.

What the evidence says

We found no published validation of the Amazfit Helio Ring: no peer-reviewed comparison against polysomnography, no chest-strap study, no ECG comparison. That is why it scores 2 out of 10 on evidence, the lowest of any ring we have reviewed, and it is not a statement that the ring reads badly. It is a statement that nobody has published a check.

The closest useful frame is the category evidence. A 2026 systematic review and meta-analysis by Jin et al. in the Journal of Translational Medicine pooled 28 articles on 11 finger-worn devices and found sleep/wake detection holding up far better than stage-by-stage accuracy (Jin et al.). Those findings describe finger-worn devices as a group, not this ring, and we do not transfer a study from one device to another.

Yes, and the reason is worth a paragraph, because the smart ring aisle has been reshaped by patent litigation. Oura filed an ITC action in late 2025 naming Samsung, Zepp Health, Reebok and Nexxbase. Zepp Health makes the Helio Ring, so that case put the ring's US imports in question.

It no longer does. Oura and Zepp jointly asked the ITC to terminate Zepp from the investigation on the basis of a settlement agreement; the administrative law judge approved the request on July 10, 2026, the Commission confirmed on August 11 and published its notice the next day, and Zepp dismissed its own six-patent suit against Oura (Gadgets & Wearables). The terms were not made public, so we will not characterize them. What we can say is that all three size listings were in stock on Amazon.com when we checked, and Zepp is no longer facing an exclusion order in that case.

That is a better position than one competitor can claim: the Ultrahuman Ring AIR is still not on sale in the US, as our Ultrahuman Ring PRO vs AIR comparison explains. Where to buy, and why the channel changes your returns and sizing options, is in where to buy a smart ring.

Who should skip it

  • Anyone whose finger is not a size 8, 10 or 12. There is no size for you, and no amount of sizing-kit care changes that.
  • Anyone who hates charging, or travels. Four days at best, no case, and SpO2 monitoring costs you time off that figure.
  • Anyone who wants published accuracy evidence for the ring they buy. There is none for this one. The RingConn Gen 2 at least has a preprint of its own.
  • Anyone buying mainly for the readiness score. Amazfit's own footnote ties it to Zepp Aura, currently bundled free.
  • Anyone who wants sleep apnea monitoring. Amazfit lists sleep breathing quality, not an apnea feature; see RingConn's apnea monitoring for what a ring-based version of that actually involves.

The alternatives

RingConn Gen 2 is the ring we would buy instead for most people: no fee, 10-12 days a charge plus a charging case RingConn rates at up to 150 days, sizes 6-14 with a free sizing kit, sleep apnea monitoring, and the only ring here with a chest-strap comparison of its own. It costs more. It also asks less of you every week. Read the RingConn Gen 2 review, or the head-to-head in Amazfit Helio vs RingConn Gen 2.

Oura Ring 5 is the opposite trade, and worth making deliberately rather than by default: the deepest research record in the category, sizes 6-13, 6-9 days a charge - and a membership for as long as you own it. We set the two side by side in Amazfit Helio Ring vs Oura Ring 5.

The Amazfit Helio Strap is the same brand's screenless wrist tracker, and its page carries no Zepp Aura footnote at all, with a claimed ten days a charge instead of four. If a finger was never the appeal, read the Helio Strap review.

RingConn Gen 2 Air is the other direction: RingConn's lowest-priced ring, up to 10 days a charge, the same 6-14 sizes, no charging case and no apnea feature. If price is the binding constraint and the Helio's sizes rule you out, start at the Gen 2 Air review. For every ring in one table, use the smart ring comparison chart, or browse the rest of our smart ring reviews.

How we scored this

How these picks were chosen

Every pick here is labeled Researched: chosen from each brand's fee policy, spec sheet, sizing and warranty pages, and the published studies that measured the ring (or its predecessor) against a chest strap, an ECG or a sleep lab, then scored on a public rubric. Every figure links to where it came from, and maker performance numbers are labeled “maker's claim,” so you can see exactly what you're paying for before you buy.

Scores are editorial judgments built from that documented research. Commissions never set a score or decide a pick. The rubric and its weights are published.

Questions

Frequently asked

Does the Amazfit Helio Ring need a subscription?
No. Amazfit's page says “No Subscriptions Required,” and the Amazon listings say “Subscription Free.” One caveat from the same page: footnote 3 says “Readiness insights require subscription to Zepp Aura,” and Amazfit lists Zepp Aura as free for Helio Ring users. So the readiness insight depends on a plan Amazfit bundles rather than one you buy.
How long does the Amazfit Helio Ring battery last?
Amazfit claims “up to 4 days” with heart rate, assisted sleep and stress monitoring on and blood oxygen off. A full charge is about 1 hour 40 minutes on the wireless charger in the box, and there is no charging case. That is the shortest claim of any ring we cover; see smart ring battery life.
What sizes does the Amazfit Helio Ring come in?
Sizes 8, 10 and 12 only, sold as three separate Amazon listings. Amazfit offers a measurement form for sizes outside that range. If you need a 9 or an 11, look at rings that run the full span, such as the sizes 6-14 RingConn rings in our sizing comparison.
Is the Amazfit Helio Ring waterproof?
Amazfit rates it 10 ATM under ISO 22810:2010 (up to 100 m) and advises taking it off for hot showers and saunas. What those ratings mean in a pool or a shower is in is a smart ring waterproof.
Can you still buy the Amazfit Helio Ring in the US?
Yes. Zepp Health was terminated from Oura's ITC investigation after a settlement, confirmed by the Commission on August 11, 2026, and all three size listings were in stock on Amazon.com when we checked.
Is the Amazfit Helio Ring accurate?
Unknown, honestly. We found no published validation of this ring against a chest strap, an ECG or a sleep lab. The category research (Jin et al. 2026) is kinder to sleep/wake detection than to stage-by-stage accuracy. You can check its heart rate and HRV yourself with our chest strap protocol.
