Oura Ring 5 review: what you get, and what the membership costs

How this review was built

We haven't worn, owned or lab-tested an Oura Ring 5. This review is built from Oura's published specs, its membership, warranty and HSA/FSA terms, the published studies of earlier Oura rings, and one named reviewer who did wear it: DC Rainmaker, whose in-depth review ran on July 3, 2026. Everything we quote is linked in the sources at the bottom, and the score comes from the ring rubric on our methodology page.

The Oura Ring 5 scores 5.8 out of 10, the lowest of the eight rings in our smart ring reviews. That isn't a verdict on the hardware. It scores well on evidence, sizing and phone support. It scores 3 out of 10 on cost of ownership, which carries 30% of the weight, because the membership never ends. If you're willing to pay that fee, read the score with that in mind.

What Ring 5 is

Oura announced Ring 5 on May 28, 2026, with preorders opening that day and shipping from June 4 (TechCrunch). It's now the only ring on Oura's US rings store and it's listed on Amazon.com. Oura describes a titanium exterior and interior, a weight “from 2 grams (depending on ring size),” IP68 and waterproofing to 100 m (328 ft), and support for iOS and Android.

The sensors and features Oura lists on the Ring 5 store page:

• Red and infrared LEDs for blood oxygen; green and infrared LEDs for heart rate, HRV and respiration.
• A digital sensor for temperature trends, plus an accelerometer.
• Symptom Radar: Oura “scans for signs of strain in your biometrics and can provide early alerts, sometimes before symptoms of a cold or flu are even felt.”
• Cardiovascular Age, Blood Pressure Signals (overnight blood pressure dip trends) and Cycle Insights built on temperature trends.
• Blood oxygen at night, which Oura says can tell “if you're experiencing any breathing disturbances.”

That's a longer list than any no-fee ring we cover. The question for this site's reader is how much of it you can see without paying.

What you pay over three years

Oura's membership is $5.99 a month or $69.99 a year in the US (Oura Support), and DC Rainmaker's review confirmed the monthly figure still applies to Ring 5. New members get one month included. Here's the fee against the two no-fee alternatives on this page.

There's no lifetime plan: “There currently is no option to purchase or upgrade to a Lifetime Membership.” Our Oura membership cost page covers every billing option, and is an Oura Ring worth it weighs the fee against what it buys.

One way to soften it: Oura's Ring 5 page says “HSA/FSA eligible,” and Oura says a prepaid membership can be paid with HSA or FSA funds when bought with a new ring. Flex, the HSA/FSA checkout partner several ring brands use, says that “Generally, you do not need a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) for an Oura Ring; however, some plans may require you to get one” ( Flex). What's locked without the membership

Oura's support page lists what you keep without a membership: “your three daily Oura scores (Readiness, Activity, and Sleep), ring battery, basic profile information, app settings, and the Explore content.” Read that against the feature list above. Symptom Radar, Cardiovascular Age, Blood Pressure Signals and Cycle Insights aren't on the list of things Oura says you keep, and Oura's store describes the membership as what “unlocks personalized insights, an AI health companion, and new features as they arrive.”

So an unpaid Ring 5 is a ring that measures everything and shows you three numbers. That's why we don't treat Oura's fee as a small add-on: it's the difference between the feature list on the box and a daily summary. What the evidence says

Ring 5 hasn't been through a published validation study yet. What it has is lineage. The best study we found, Dial et al. in Physiological Reports (2025), tested Oura Gen 3 and Gen 4 against a Polar H10 chest strap over 536 nights in 13 adults. The Oura rings agreed most closely of the devices tested: for Gen 4, resting heart rate error was 1.94% and HRV error 5.96% (Dial et al.). On sleep, a 2025 meta-analysis of six studies (Khan et al.) found no statistically significant differences between Oura and medical-grade sleep studies on total sleep time or time in each stage. Those are earlier rings with earlier hardware. That lineage is a reason for confidence, not proof: until someone publishes a study of Ring 5, its accuracy is inferred.

DC Rainmaker, who wore Ring 5 alongside a Polar H10, is the closest thing to a test of this exact ring:

• Workout heart rate was “largely pretty good” for indoor cycling and road running.
• On a trail descent, “the HR accuracy basically falls apart for the entire rest of the run.”
• For sleep, he found “no meaningful difference between Oura and other wearables for core sleep stats.”

The health features, read carefully

No Oura ring feature is FDA-cleared. Oura is pursuing clearance for a blood pressure feature (MedTech Dive), but as of September 2026 we found no clearance. The one FDA-cleared product mentioned on the Ring 5 page is a partner's: Natural Cycles, a birth control app. That clearance belongs to Natural Cycles, not to Oura's hardware.

Blood Pressure Signals tracks overnight trends; it doesn't give you a reading you can act on like a cuff. Oura's own blog, summarizing the FDA's January 2026 wellness guidance, says non-invasive wearables estimating blood pressure “can qualify as general wellness products if they are strictly wellness-focused” (Oura). That's the category these features live in. Symptom Radar and the blood oxygen feature are early-warning wellness signals, not diagnoses. Battery, sizing and phones

Battery. Oura claims “6-9 days of battery life, depending on ring size and usage.” DC Rainmaker got 6-7 days in real use. There's no charging case, so it's a weekly charge. Both RingConn rings claim longer on a single charge and include a case. Our smart ring battery life guide reads every maker's claim with its conditions.

Sizing. Ring 5 comes in sizes 6-13, and Oura says its “redesigned interior fits differently than Oura Ring 4,” so a Ring 4 owner shouldn't assume the same size. Oura uses whole sizes only and they differ from standard US ring sizes. The sizing kit is free on Oura's store; Android Police reported the Amazon version costs a little but comes with a matching Amazon credit toward the ring. Oura recommends the index finger. Warranty and protection plans

Oura's US warranty is one year from purchase, and it excludes batteries as consumable parts (Oura Support). The battery is a sealed, “rechargeable, non-replaceable” lithium polymer cell. Oura's store sells optional protection plans at $45 for two years and $60 for three; those are optional, so we leave them out of the fee math. For context on why battery coverage matters, Android Authority reported that Oura's pre-IPO filing tied a large rise in fiscal 2025 warranty expenses to Ring 4 battery problems (Android Authority). Who should skip it

• Anyone who won't pay for their own data. Without the membership you see three daily scores. That's the single biggest reason this ring scores last on our rubric.
• People who want to charge less than weekly. 6-9 days claimed, 6-7 observed by DC Rainmaker, and no case.
• Sizes 4, 5, 14 and 15. Ring 5 stops at 6-13.
• Anyone training by heart rate zones on rough terrain. DC Rainmaker saw its workout heart rate fall apart on a trail descent.

The alternatives
