Ultrahuman warranty and UltrahumanX: what is actually promised

A ring with no subscription is a one-time purchase, so the warranty is the only ongoing promise the brand makes you. Ultrahuman publishes its US terms, so this page quotes them - including the battery exclusion, the 30-day return window, and the one thing the terms do not mention at all.

The published terms, quoted

Ultrahuman publishes a Terms of Sale page for its US ring buyers, which is more than several brands in this category manage. The warranty clause is short and worth reading in full rather than in summary:

“Subject to applicable laws, Ultrahuman provides a 12 (twelve) months limited warranty from the date of delivery against defects in materials and workmanship.”

Three details in one sentence. The clock starts at delivery, not at purchase or activation. The term is twelve months. And the cover is for defects in materials and workmanship - which is a narrower promise than “if it breaks we fix it,” as the exclusions below make explicit.

One more clause decides whether any of it applies to you: “This warranty is valid only in the country of purchase.” Buy in the US, claim in the US. Ultrahuman names Ultrahuman Healthcare Inc. as the US seller of record (Ultrahuman US Terms of Sale).

On proof: “Your purchase order number together with the date of delivery will be the warranty support document.” There is no separate registration step to complete, and no warranty card to lose - keep the order confirmation email and you have what a claim needs.

The battery exclusion

This is the clause that surprises people, and it is not unique to Ultrahuman. The warranty does not apply:

“to consumable parts, such as batteries or protective coatings that are designed to diminish over time”

- unless the failure “has occurred due to a defect in materials or workmanship.” So a cell that simply holds less charge after a year of use is treated as wear, not as a fault.

What else is excluded

Two more exclusions in the published terms are worth knowing before you wear the ring anywhere interesting:

  • Accidents. The warranty does not apply “to damage caused by accident, abuse, misuse, fire, earthquake or other external cause.” Dropping it, crushing it or catching it on something is not a warranty matter - that is what the paid plan below exists for.
  • Cosmetic damage. It does not apply “to cosmetic damage, including but not limited to scratches, dents,” unless the damage came from a defect. A titanium ring worn through a year of barbells, door handles and car keys will pick up marks, and marks are not covered. Our guide to lifting with a smart ring covers how to reduce them.

For a defect visible on arrival, the terms are specific about timing: email support@ultrahuman.com “within 24 hours of receipt of your order.” That is a short window. Open the box the day it lands and look at the ring.

The 30-day return window

Separate from the warranty, and more generous than several rivals. For the Ring AIR the terms say you may “return the Ultrahuman Ring Air within 30 days of delivery if you're not completely satisfied,” with two conditions: “The product must include all original accessories, including the charger, and must be in its original packaging.” Ultrahuman adds that “Return shipping is free” and that “We will provide you with a shipping label once your return request is processed.” No restocking fee is mentioned.

The limited-edition Rare Ring is handled separately and more strictly: 30 calendar days, the ring must be in “like-new, unworn condition” and not engraved, resized or altered, “diminished-value deductions may apply where the ring has been handled beyond what is necessary to assess it,” and shipping fees “may be refunded at Ultrahuman's discretion.”

Thirty days with free return shipping is a real advantage for a product whose biggest risk is sizing. It is longer than RingConn's published window and it matters most if you ordered without a sizing kit.

What UltrahumanX adds

UltrahumanX is Ultrahuman's paid protection plan, and it is the only route to cover for the things the warranty excludes. Ultrahuman's FAQ says it “protects your Ring PRO, Home, and M1.” What you get depends on the tier:

  • 1-year plan: “your standard warranty is extended to include accidental damage protection for Ring PRO, Home, and M1.”
  • 2-year plan: everything above, and for the ring specifically, “Ring PRO is also covered for theft, loss, and a one-time size exchange if you lose weight.” Ultrahuman adds that “The UltrahumanX 2-Year plan includes one ring replacement for the entire duration of the plan.”

The timing rules are published and easy to fall foul of. The plan is “Valid for 1 year from the date of the first device (ring, home or M1) activation,” and if you never activate the device, “the UltrahumanX subscription will be automatically activated” after 60 days from purchase - so the clock starts whether you have opened the box or not. You can add it after checkout, but not indefinitely: “Yes, you can purchase UltrahumanX within 30 days of your order date” (UltrahumanX FAQ).

A size exchange sitting inside a protection plan is unusual and genuinely useful: fingers change, and on a sealed ring a size change otherwise means buying again. For a lost or stolen ring, the process is “simply contact our support team and provide the necessary documents to validate the loss or theft.”

The gap in the published terms

Here is the thing we could not reconcile, and we would rather print it than smooth it over.

The US Terms of Sale name the Ring AIR and the Rare Ring. The Ring PRO is not named anywhere in them. But the Ring PRO is the only ring Ultrahuman currently offers US buyers - the Ring AIR remains covered by the ITC exclusion order and Ultrahuman's US store lists only the PRO (Ultrahuman US store). Meanwhile the UltrahumanX FAQ, which covers the paid plan, names the Ring PRO explicitly.

We are not claiming the Ring PRO is unwarranted. The most likely explanation is a terms page that has not caught up with the product line, and a US buyer almost certainly has the same 12-month cover. But a warranty is a written promise, and the written promise currently names a different product. If you are buying a Ring PRO, ask Ultrahuman support to confirm the warranty term in writing before you order and keep the reply. That costs you one email and removes the only real uncertainty on this page.

How it compares with RingConn and Oura

Twelve months is the category norm rather than a weakness. What differs is what surrounds it.

  • RingConn covers “all original components of the new Product” for one year outside the EEA and two years inside it, excludes battery replacement and normal capacity loss, and sells a 2- or 3-year Product Protection Plan that must be bought at RingConn's own checkout - which means an Amazon buyer cannot have it. The detail is in the RingConn warranty page.
  • Oura runs one year in the US with batteries excluded, on top of a membership that keeps billing for as long as you use the ring - so the warranty is the smaller of the two ongoing relationships. The arithmetic is in what the Oura membership costs.
  • Ultrahuman matches the 12 months, beats both on the return window (30 days, free shipping), and is the only one of the three whose paid plan covers theft and loss.

What to check before you buy

  1. Confirm the Ring PRO warranty in writing. The published terms name the Ring AIR, not the PRO. One email to support settles it.
  2. Decide on UltrahumanX at checkout, or within 30 days. After that window the FAQ says it cannot be added, and the plan's clock starts at activation - or 60 days after purchase if you never activate.
  3. Open the box the day it arrives. Damage or a defect on arrival has a 24-hour reporting window.
  4. Keep the original packaging and the charger until you are past 30 days. A return needs “all original accessories, including the charger,” in the original box.
  5. Keep the order number. It is the warranty document - there is nothing else to register.
  6. Price the plan into the ring. A protection plan is part of what the ring costs to own over three years, which is how our cost-of-ownership page treats every recurring charge.

How we scored this

How these picks were chosen

Every pick here is labeled Researched: chosen from each brand's fee policy, spec sheet, sizing and warranty pages, and the published studies that measured the ring (or its predecessor) against a chest strap, an ECG or a sleep lab, then scored on a public rubric. Every figure links to where it came from, and maker performance numbers are labeled “maker's claim,” so you can see exactly what you're paying for before you buy.

Scores are editorial judgments built from that documented research. Commissions never set a score or decide a pick. The rubric and its weights are published.

Questions

Frequently asked

How long is the Ultrahuman warranty?
Ultrahuman's US Terms of Sale give “a 12 (twelve) months limited warranty from the date of delivery against defects in materials and workmanship,” valid “only in the country of purchase.” The clock starts at delivery, not at purchase or activation.
Does the Ultrahuman warranty cover the battery?
No. The warranty does not apply “to consumable parts, such as batteries or protective coatings that are designed to diminish over time,” unless the failure came from a defect in materials or workmanship. A cell that simply holds less charge over time is treated as wear.
What does UltrahumanX cover that the warranty does not?
Accidental damage on the 1-year plan, and on the 2-year plan for the Ring PRO also “theft, loss, and a one-time size exchange if you lose weight,” with one ring replacement across the plan. Ultrahuman publishes no price, billing schedule or deductible on that page.
Can I return an Ultrahuman ring if it doesn't fit?
Within 30 days of delivery, yes - Ultrahuman says you may return the ring “if you're not completely satisfied,” with all original accessories including the charger and in the original packaging, and “Return shipping is free.” The 2-year UltrahumanX plan separately includes a one-time size exchange.
Can I buy UltrahumanX later?
Only within a window: “Yes, you can purchase UltrahumanX within 30 days of your order date.” Note also that if you never activate the device, the plan activates itself 60 days after purchase.
Is the Ring PRO covered by the published terms?
The US Terms of Sale name the Ring AIR and the Rare Ring, not the Ring PRO - even though the PRO is the only ring Ultrahuman sells to US buyers. We think that is a terms page lagging the product line rather than a gap in cover, but ask support to confirm the term in writing before you order and keep the reply.
